What is Get About Town?
Get About Town is a social group for children aged between eight and 13 years, who have a physical disability.
The aim of Get About Town is to give children with physical disabilities that chance to form friendships and participate in interesting recreational activities.
Get Abut Town is staffed by a recreation coordinator, who has experience in supporting children with physical disabilities to access leisure activities. Additional staff support is provided to ensure that the needs of group members are well met. Gateways volunteers also provide great support to this group.
The Commonwealth Carer Respite and Carelink Service has provided some short term funding for this group.
Who is eligible for Get About Town?
Children aged between eight and 13 years, who have a physical disability, are eligible to be part of Get About Town. The participant must also live with a primary carer in the City of Greater Geelong or Barwon Region.
Where is Get About Town held, and how often?
Get About Town meets either at the Gateways office in Albert Street, Geelong West, or at the activity venue.
The group meets from 1pm to 5pm, one Saturday a month during school terms.
What is the Cost?
Generally an activity fee of $10 per session is charged for Get About Town, however this fee may be higher depending on cost of each activity. Participants and carers are informed of the fees for each activity prior to the start of the school term.
