The Strengthening Parent Support Program
Providing information and support to families with children with a disability or additional need in the Barwon South West Region.

What is the role of a Strengthening Parent Support Worker?

Gateways Strengthening Parent Support Workers provide:

  • Information and training sessions for parents/carers and family members.
  • Individual information, assistance and referral to appropriate service agencies.
  • Individual advocacy or referral to advocacy organisations.
  • Community education to professionals, service providers, students and the general community regarding issues for families of children with a disability; and,.
  • Updated information on support groups in local areas; support to these groups; or, in cooperation with families, help to establish new support groups.

What are Parent Support Groups?

Strengthening Parent Support Workers can also help link families to Parent to Parent Support Groups operating in their area. Many families enjoy meeting others facing similar challenges for ideas and support.

Gateways Strengthening Parent Support Workers are always developing new and innovative support options for families, such as phone link ups for isolated families. Your suggestions about how we can best support families are welcome.

Brighter Futures Fundraising Campaign
