Respite for Carers of People who are Frail Aged
Flexicare is a flexible respite program that provides in-home and community-based respite for families, who are the primary caregivers of a person who is frail aged.

What respite is available to carers of people who are frail aged?

Flexicare is a flexible respite program that provides in-home and community-based respite for families, who are the primary carers of a person who is frail aged.

This service aims to support the primary carers so they can continue to care for someone who is frail aged.

In consultation with each family, Gateways develops a personalised respite plan that ensures that the services they receive address their needs.

Who is eligible for this type of respite?

Families caring for a person aged 65-years or more, who is frail aged, are eligible for referral to this program. Priority is given to carers who have limited access to other support options.

Individuals with an Extended Aged Care at Home (EACH) package are not eligible to apply.

How much respite may we be entitled to and how much will it cost?

An allocation of hours will be provided to eligible families each year. Generally, up to five hours a week is allocated. Families have the flexibility to choose when these hours are used during the week.

A standard fee of $2.70 per hour is charged for this type of respite, however this is negotiable in case of financial hardship.

How do I find out more?

Referrals may be made by case managers, service providers or primary carers.   Contact the Gateways Support Services Respite and Recreation Services Manager for more details via Contact Us or by phoning 5221 2984.
