A team of Gateways disability workers has won a statewide award for their outstanding work in giving people with disabilities a great life and a real home in the Geelong community.

Community Services Minister Lisa Neville presented the Gateways team with the award at the Disability Sector Disability Support Worker Awards last week. These awards recognise contributions by staff, who support people with a disability to maximise their choices in life.

The Gateways team comprising Jayne Donovan, Jan Blunt, Joy Burge, Anne Santospirito, Anne Phillips, Karen Shrimpton, Erin Murphy and Mavia Justin work together to support five people who live in a supported living house run by Gateways in East Geelong.

Gateways Support Services Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Rosemary Malone,

said the Tate St Team epitomised excellence in supporting people with disabilities.

“They have a challenging job that they do with innovation and such a positive attitude. Their dedication and support has given residents who live in this group home an amazing quality life,” Mrs Malone said.

“These awards give us the opportunity to recognise the incredible impact that disability support workers have on the disabled people that they support.

“It is through their skills and positive approach that people with a disability are being given the opportunity to make choices about how they live in their community,” Mrs Malone said.
