Does Gateways run friendship groups for children and teenagers?

Friends play a vital role in people feeling included, valued and part of their community.

Gateways understands the importance of making friends and friends having time together and supports this through a range of social recreation programs held for children and adults.

Groups run by Gateways include:

  • Geelong Youth Group - is a social group for young people with disabilities aged between 10 and 18-years. This groups meets on four Saturdays during each school term.

  • Colac Youth Group - is a social group for young people with disabilities aged 15-years and more.

  • Get About Town - this group meets monthly and is a social groups for young people with a physical disability.

  • Winning Days - for people with Asperger Syndrome aged between 14 and 18-years. This group meets fortnightly during the school term.

  • Club 4 Us - is a social group for children with Asperger Syndrome aged eight and 13-years.

Tell me about Gateways school holiday programs.

Gateways runs school holiday programs in Geelong and Colac for children and young people with disabilities.These programs support friendships and social opportunities while providing a much-needed break for families.

With experienced staff and volunteers, Gateways school holiday programs offer fun activities in a safe environment.

The Geelong School Holiday Program is held at Barwon Valley School and the Colac School Holiday Program operates from the Colac Specialist School.

What about groups for adults?

The Geelong Get Up and Go Club is a social recreation club for people aged 18-years or more, who still live at home. Club members enjoy community-based social activities on either a Friday or Saturday night.

How can I meet other families just like mine?

The Gateways Strengthening Parent Support Program offers you the chance to meet other families in your local area to exchange information and share experiences.

You can access this support by attending a Parent to Parent Support Group or through contact with the parent support worker in your region via Contact Us or phoning 5221 2984.

What programs does Gateways provide for older adults?

Gateways runs a group called Prime Movers for older adults with dementia. Every Wednesday this social group goes on outings throughout the Geelong region, as well as Melbourne.
