What is the Geelong School Holiday Program?
The Geelong School Holiday Program gives children and young people with disabilities/additional needs the chance to take part in leisure activities and meet with their friends during the school holidays.
The Geelong School Holiday Program is staffed by a recreation coordinator, who has experience in supporting people with disabilities in a range of leisure activities. An assistant supports the various activities to ensure the needs of each individual is met. Gateways volunteers also help out.
The Geelong School Holiday Program is partly funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services – Disability Services. It also receives joint funding from the State and Federal governments through the Home and Community Care (HACC) program.
Who is eligible for the Geelong School Holiday Program?
The Geelong School Holiday Program is open to children and young people with a disability, who range in age fom school age to 18 years.
The program is split into two with the Junior Holiday Program supporting children from school age to 10 years of age and the Senior Holiday Program supporting young people aged 11 to 18 years.
To be eligible the child or young person must be:
- Registered as having a disability and the primary carer must receive the Carers Allowance.
- Cared for by an unpaid primary carer, and be living at at home with their carer.
- Living in the City of Greater Geelong, Borough of Queenscliff or Surf Coast Shire.
Where is it held?
The Geelong School Holiday Program is based at Barwon Valley School, Reynolds Rd, Belmont.
How often is the Geelong School Holiday Program held?
The Geelong School Holiday Program is held during each of the school holidays.
What is the Cost?
An activity fee of $12 per session is charged for the Geelong School Holiday Program.
