Get About Town is a social group for children and young people who have a physical disability.

The aim of Get About Town is to give children and young people with physical disabilities the chance to catch up with friends, make new friends and  experience fun and interesting recreational activities.

Get Abut Town is staffed by a recreation leader, who has experience in supporting children and young people with physical disabilities to access leisure activities. Additional staff support is provided to ensure that the needs of group members are well met. Gateways volunteers also provide great support to this group.

Who is eligible for Get About Town?

To be eligible for the Get About Town program the participant must be aged between 15 and 21, and have a physical disability

Have a current NDIA plan with the following support item:

  • Participate Community – assistance to access community, social & recreational activities – individual  higher intensity – Saturday OR
  • Have a Community Access Bundle

What is the Cost?

You will need to pay an activity fee for each session attended.  This fee will be based on whatever the particular activity is for that day. If you have the following NDIA line item in your NDIA plan Gateways will claim the activity cost through NDIA:

  • Participate Community – Community, Social & Recreational Activity Costs

If you don’t have this NDIA line item in your NDIA plan you will need to pay the activity cost prior to the day.
