Year 12 - What's Next?

Finally! You’re done with school - but what’s next?

As you get ready to start the next chapter in your journey, Gateways Support Services is here to help, support and guide you through this change. Your everyday life might start looking quite different when you finish school and like most young people, you may have questions about what’s next.

  • What job would I like to do?
  • Where can I meet new friends that like the same things as I do?
  • I’d like to try new activities and hobbies but I’m a bit nervous about doing this on my own, where can I find someone to ‘show me the ropes’?

Most of us have been where you are now and we understand that change isn’t always easy.

What’s Next? is there to support you as you start this new chapter and is a great way to answer some of these questions, meet new people and most important – have fun at the same time.

Get work ready

Job Quest helps you do just that – get job ready. Learn some new skills and get experience as you volunteer in an actual workplace with people who understand you and are ready to help you learn new things.

Maybe there are a few things that you’d like to try but you’re not sure where to start – Job Quest gives you the option to try out different roles in different workplaces as you build confidence and work on your social skills.

1:1 - It’s about you

Individual Support is a big part of What’s next? helping you meet your NDIS outcomes and future goals.

Support plans are designed around you and what you want to achieve. That can include:

  • Learning new skills
  • Getting involved in your community
  • Grow or maintain independence
  • Work on your social skills
  • Participate in new activities

Work with someone that gets you:

  • 1:1 support will be provided by a support worker who’s matched with you, based on your personality, age, training, interests and skills.
  • Your support worker will also understand your goals, health and medical needs, supporting you to regulate you emotions, behaviours and participate in the community in a safe and supported way.

We all need to have some fun as well

Gateways Recreation is the perfect place to meet people who share your interests, in a safe and supportive environment:

  • Small groups mean a great experience for you.
  • You’re matched with trained staff that have similar interest to you.
  • If you need something extra, high-level support needs can be accommodated.
  • Participate in programs that link to your NDIS goals.

It’s all about staying connected with Social Connect

With the focus on capacity building, skill development and community participation, our centre based program is designed to incorporate individualised therapy lead supports.

Our onsite settings are designed to enhance engagement and participation by offering access to low stimulus environments for those with sensory processing difficulties. Our program is for adults who require a staff support ratio of 1:1.

How do we do this? By providing activities that are flexible and responsive to each individual’s needs.

  • Connect with new skills
  • Connect with your goals
  • Connect with your community
  • Challenge yourself
