Chris takes centre stage at the theatre!

' Annual Charity Golf Day

Gateways client Chris, recently had a day he’ll never forget, heading to Melbourne to see MJ The Musical!

Anyone who knows Chris knows just how much he loves Michael Jackson. Whether it’s at a Social Connect disco or just a quiet moment to himself, Chris is always ready to sing, dance, and move like the King of Pop. At our discos, he’s known for clearing the dance floor as soon as “Jam” starts playing, it’s his moment to shine!

To make this special trip happen, Chris worked hard with the Gateways Safety Squad, saving up his own spending money. When the big day arrived, Chris dressed in his Billie Jean outfit and caught the train to Melbourne, ready to show off his moves and meet fellow fans.

Chris enjoyed lunch at the DFO food court before hopping on the tram to the theatre. The tram was busy, and while Chris felt a little nervous about the crowd, he knew exactly what to do, he asked for support to hold someone’s hand until he felt comfortable. Along the way, he made new friends who loved his outfit and were also heading to the show!

When Chris arrived at the Her Majesty’s Theatre, the friendly ushers helped him find his seat early. From the moment the curtain went up, Chris was completely captivated. He said it was “the best day of my life.” During intermission, he was already asking when he could see it again!

After the final curtain call, Chris headed home, still full of excitement. On the tram and train, he chatted with other audience members, proudly asking if they enjoyed the show and declaring, “It was the best show ever!”

To top off his amazing adventure, Chris even ran into some of the new friends he had met earlier in the day. They were thrilled to see him again and hear how much he loved every moment.

Chris’s trip to Melbourne wasn’t just about seeing his idol, it was about confidence, community access, and experiencing something that brings him joy. His enthusiasm for music and connection is truly what makes him shine. We’re so proud of Chris and the effort he put into making his dream day happen.

There truly is something so special about the theatre, the feelings and emotions that fill the room as the lights dim, the music begins and the story comes to life right before your eyes.
