Finding purpose, friendship and belonging at Gateways

When you meet Anthony, one thing stands out immediately, his bright smile and enthusiasm for being part of the Gateways community. Whether he’s working in the office, volunteering at events, or chatting with friends, Anthony brings warmth and energy to everything he does.
Recently, Anthony and Gateways Chief Operating Officer, Sean, joined Mil from BayFM to share how Gateways’ support has helped Anthony grow in confidence and independence, both at work and in the community.
Anthony has been connected with Gateways for more than ten years, first joining as a child and continuing to choose Gateways as his provider into adulthood. Over that time, he’s developed new skills, built lasting friendships, and found opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways.
Through his various roles, Anthony supports the team with IT and first aid tasks, and is always ready to lend a helping hand. He’s also getting into the festive spirit this year, volunteering at Gateways’ Waurn Ponds gift wrapping fundraiser, raising money and spreading Christmas cheer.
Sean says Anthony’s journey is a great example of how Gateways empowers people to live their best lives through inclusion and opportunity. “Above all the jobs that Anthony does, is actually the relationships he’s made within the office with people that he would never have normally engaged with.” For Anthony, the sense of connection means everything.
To top off his BayFM experience, Anthony was surprised with a special moment, meeting former Geelong Football Club premiership player Cameron Ling. It was an experience he’ll cherish and talk about for a long time.
Celebrating inclusion and achievement
Anthony’s story is just one example of how Gateways supports people with disabilities to live, learn, work and belong. His journey reflects what Gateways stands for, inclusion, respect, and the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive.
