Celebrating Seniors with Taste of Culture: Geelong Seniors Festival

The sharing of food can build connections and help us to learn about other’s cultural backgrounds; seniors within our community have some of the most sought after recipes, passed down through generations.
As part of this year’s Geelong Seniors Festival, Gateways Support Services and MACS Bella Chara invited six seniors, each a valuable member of the Geelong community, to sit down with us and share their recipes, forming the recipe book, Taste of Culture.
With funding from the City of Greater Geelong, Gateways Support Services, and MACS Bella Chara have also created a short film capturing the recipes and generous stories of six residents from all over the world under this year’s festival theme Reimagined: Keepin’ on’.
Taste of Culture gave MACS Bella Chara residents a chance to share their favourite cultural recipes and Gateways’ participants will have the opportunity to connect while preparing and enjoying them – a celebration of multicultural food and the joys of cooking together.
We hope these recipes will inspire others to stay connected and keep on keepin’ on, despite the challenges of Covid-19 we’re all facing.
The Geelong Seniors Festival is the largest community celebration for seniors in regional Victoria. This year, the festival has been reimagined through a series of free online events. Throughout October, you can join in many free events or view special tributes to seniors, such as Taste of Culture, here.
