Gateways Support Services successfully raised $16,080 during their 19th Annual Charity Golf Day, held on May 19, 2023, at Barwon Heads Golf Club.

The funds were put towards improving Gateways’ recreation program by buying a much-needed minivan. The program follows a person-centered support approach, aiming to enrich participants’ quality of life and encourage active community engagement.

Belinda Pearce, Manager of Social Connect, emphasised the significance of the new minivan, saying, “A new minivan enables more of our participants to continue to access their local community, promoting choice and control, whilst learning and developing skills to achieve their goals.”

The recreation team, dedicated to facilitating participant transportation and fostering increased independence and community involvement, is always on the move, transporting individuals to social events and activities. Rohan Braddy, CEO of Gateways Support Services, expressed gratitude for the fundraising auxiliary team, formed of dedicated volunteers, who consistently initiate fundraising events each year. Their hard work raises essential funds that directly help the participants. Rohan added, “We are most grateful for the dedication of Gateways’ auxiliary team of volunteers in believing that everyone has the right to access the resources they need to live their lives to the fullest.”

The Gateways Auxiliary team plays a crucial role in providing support to participants, aiding them in navigating challenges associated with disabilities.

Amidst laughter, 18 teams took part in the golf tournament, aiming for a hole-in-one and the coveted $10,000 prize. The match began promptly at 12:30pm, with teams navigating the course despite the rain that began shortly after the game began. Spirits remained high throughout the event.
