New Wandering in People on the Autism Spectrum resource launched

In late 2013, a forum was held at the Royal Children’s Hospital about children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who abscond, and it was clear that this is a vital issue for many families and others who care for children with ASD.

Gateways then approached AMAZE to set up a working group involving families, police, service providers and subject matter experts to help develop a new resource for families as well as universal and specialist service providers.

It’s taken some time and a lot of work, but we are delighted that AMAZE has just launched the AMAZE Wandering Resource which aims to reduce and respond to the risk of wandering for people on the autism spectrum. We encourage interested families and all who care for children with autism, to read this evidence based guide and implement suggestions which you think will help keep safe the children with autism in your lives.  It also provides information on how to access professional assistance and what to do if someone on the autism spectrum goes missing.
