CEO Message September 2019

Boardandstephanieaug2019

New CEO, Stephanie Gunn reports on her first month at Gateways.

Hello everyone,

I have now had the honour of working in the CEO role for Gateways for a month.

In particular I have received a tremendous buzz from meeting a number of our participants either during their activities or at their homes or when they’ve popped into our office.

I want to let you know about the passion, skills, care and genuine commitment I have seen in our staff.  You can be confident that everything our staff do is guided by deep experience, consistency in process and a focus on quality outcomes.

I can see that our staff know each of our participants personally and work with them truly as individuals.  I have already seen great innovation, ideas and a focus on solutions that enable our participants to take different or longer and more rewarding steps every day.

I also see lots of ideas from staff experience, ideas that families and participants have raised with us.  And there are many other families, especially families that are working with children or family members with autism or complex needs that are seeking more and different supports from us.

My focus over the next little while will be to capture and prioritise these ideas to shape our future directions and will ensure that I keep you informed on these decisions.

While I am new to service provider world I have good practical understanding of how the NDIS works having been a member of the NDIA since 2012 and responsible for designing lots of the elements of how the Scheme worked in the early days.  Prior to working in the NDIA I worked in lots of different government departments in Canberra.  But I grew up in a small town  – and yes it does end in “up” – in WA where my parents had an apple orchard and am one of six kids.
