Adult camps crew reap benefits with pre-isolation getaway

Adult Camp Mornington

A trip to the Mornington Peninsula provided a timely social connection opportunity for the Western Melbourne adult recreation group last month.

Nine participants together with support staff and volunteers spent their time exploring the local area, including an indulgent visit to Peninsula Hot Springs.

While choppy seas saw a planned boat trip cancelled, a quick change of plans gave the group the chance to try their angling skills at a local fish farm.

As well as strengthening existing friendships, participants also enjoyed socialising in the local community; dining out each night and visiting local shops and markets before relaxing at Mornington Peninsula Hotel with some unforgettable games of UNO.

Staff were incredibly proud of the positive interactions that took place between participants, Gateways team members and locals, saying the trip gave participants a chance to enjoy activities together as a social group of adults, make new friends, explore, and of course, relax and revitalise.

‘This was a great camp on so many levels. I believe as staff, we were all on the same page, with embracing the wonderful personalities our participants have, and just ‘running with it.” – staff feedback.

It is so fortunate that our camps team were able to create and deliver this special experience for our adult recreation participants before social distancing was enforced. While camps are on hold for the time being, Gateways is still taking registrations of interest and working behind the scenes to come up with more great ideas for future adventures.
