Gateways proud to join NDIA’s SIL Pilot to help shape the future of quality support

Sil (7)

Gateways is proud to announce our selection as a provider in the NDIA’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) Pilot, a key part of the agency’s Quality Supports Program.

This important initiative is designed to help the NDIA better understand what high-quality SIL services look like, particularly for participants with complex needs, and the real costs and outcomes of delivering these supports.

As a trusted provider of SIL for 35 years, Gateways is honoured to contribute our knowledge, experience and person-centred approach to help shape the future of SIL services in Australia.

A strong history in supported accommodation

Gateways’ journey in SIL began with the opening of our first accommodation house, “Turalla” in Camperdown, in the early 1990s. Since then, we’ve supported hundreds of individuals and their families to achieve greater independence, inclusion, and quality of life through tailored living arrangements and supports.

We understand that high-quality SIL goes far beyond just a place to live. It’s about:

  • Creating a safe, supportive home environment
  • Building independence and daily living skills
  • Supporting choice and control
  • Fostering community connections
  • And, most importantly, respecting each person’s goals, needs, and preferences

Our team is proud to bring this commitment to quality to the SIL Pilot.

What is the SIL Pilot?

The SIL Pilot is part of the NDIA’s Quality Supports Program, which focuses on:

  • Understanding what features define quality service provision
  • Identifying good practice in delivering supports
  • Measuring the costs and outcomes of SIL services, including for people with complex needs

The pilot will run for up to 12 months, with providers like Gateways working closely with the NDIA to collect data, share insights, and contribute to shaping evidence-based improvements across the sector.

Why this matters

This pilot reflects the NDIA’s commitment to ensuring all participants have access to high-quality, effective supports. At Gateways, we believe that participants deserve more than just services—they deserve outcomes that empower them to live the lives they choose.

Being selected as a SIL Pilot provider recognises our long-standing dedication to quality and gives us an exciting opportunity to help influence the future of NDIS supports for the better.

We’re excited to be part of this next chapter in building stronger, more responsive support systems for all Australians with disability.
