Zac’s journey with Gateways

Zac is a spirited young man who has been a part of the Gateways community for over a decade. Throughout the years, he has received support from various teams, including Short Term and Adult Accommodation, Support Coordination, and Behaviour Support. Today, Zac is a proud and strong self-advocate for his rights and needs.
Now living in a private rental with the support of an external provider, Zac stays closely connected with behaviour support services and loves sharing life updates with his Gateways family. He’s always ready for a chat, whether it’s about fishing, mowing lawns, or some friendly banter.
Each week, Zac and his behaviour support team meet with his supported independent living team to review his supports, ensuring he has the skills and guidance to achieve his daily living goals and continue building his independence.
In 2021, Zac achieved a major milestone by turning his passion for mowing lawns into full time work. Now a valued senior team member, he enjoys working with equipment like the whipper snipper and ride-on mower. Zac also takes on private jobs, developing his money-handling and social skills while staying connected with his community.
The team at Gateways is proud to support Zac and looks forward to being a part of his journey as he continues to reach new milestones and pursue his goals.
