Interchange Host Buddy
A Rewarding Experience
The Buddy Program carefully matches a young person who has a disability, with a volunteer Buddy or Host family, who share their time with that person on a regular basis. This can be done as an individual, or you may wish to involve your whole family.
The young person usually spends some or all of their time in the volunteer’s home and becomes part of your social life and family networks, providing new experiences and helping to develop the young person’s independence and confidence.
Volunteers in the Buddy Program are everyday people with no special qualifications.
Commitments can vary from a few hours a week to a full weekend each month. However you choose to do it, your meet ups need to be planned and regular, to develop trust and friendship.
All volunteers will have an interview, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, Working with Children check, clear reference checks and a home safety check.
We ask for a regular commitment for a minimum of 12 months.
The program provides opportunities for new friendship and positive experiences for children with disability, as well as providing families with a break from their caring role.
This program is supported by funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments under the HACC program.
