Interchange Host Buddy

A Rewarding Experience

View the Gateways Safeguarding Children brochure.

The Interchange Program carefully matches a child or young person with a disability, with a volunteer Buddy or host family, who share their time with that child on a regular basis. This may be done individually, or you may wish to involve your whole family.

The child/young person usually spends some or all of their time in the volunteer’s home and becomes part of your social life and family networks.

Interchange hosts/volunteers are everyday people with no special qualifications. Volunteers can be a couple, with or without children, single people, young adults or grandparents. Commitments can vary from a few hours a week to a full weekend each month.

All volunteers will have an interview, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, Working with Children check, clear reference checks and a home safety check.

We ask for a regular commitment for a minimum of 12 months.

The program provides opportunities for new friendship and positive experiences for children with disability, as well as providing families with a break from their caring role.

This program is supported by funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments under the HACC program.
